Elevate Talk: Living With Purpose & Understanding the Subtle Body with Lama Brandy Davis

Join our guest speaker, Lama Brandy Davis for a 2 hour Talk

For so many of us, yoga has come into our lives as a blessing. It not only cures our various physical ailments and stymies the effects of time and gravity, but perhaps most miraculously, yoga has the power to set us free. In this two-hour workshop we will look at the anatomy of the subtle body: the system of channels and chakras, and the coursing of the inner winds and the thoughts which ride upon them. For at its core Hatha Yoga is a practice of transformation, rooted in the interpenetration of our physical, pranic, mental and ultimate bodies. Armed with the knowledge of how yoga works, we can empower our practice to effect transformation at the root of our deepest held patterns and instincts.

We will not need our mats for practice, but please come comfortable and ready to stay seated. We do have some props available for you to sit on, but if you have your own you'd like to use or will need a chair, please feel free to bring it.

Brandy Davis is a meditation and yoga teacher. She has been studying and practicing for over two decades. Her current passion is restorative justice and working with incarcerated populations. She has a particular knack for personalizing deep philosophical concepts and making them applicable to our modern lives. She teaches with love and humor. Brandy’s greatest joy comes from witnessing the opening of the human heart.

emPOWERment Flow: Charity Class

April is sexual assault awareness month. Sadly, statistics show that every 92 seconds another person experiences sexual assault. How can we help? Bring awareness to the issue, providing support to survivors, and supporting agencies that provide resources to sexual assault survivors. All of these options help to empower sexual assault survivors.

In honor of sexual assault awareness month, we are hosting an emPOWERment flow class. It is a 75-minute power vinyasa class taught by Veronica Tovar. The class will focus on strength building postures and creating heat in the body. But more importantly this class is intended to bring our community together to show support for survivors of sexual assault. Our hope is that this class will enable each participant to recognize how powerful, both mentally and physically, they truly are.

Suggested donation: $15 or desired amount towards charity- all proceeds from this event will be donated RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network)

*** More information regarding sexual assault awareness and resources can be found at: https://www.rainn.org/

Emotional Healing Through Movement: Trauma Informed Yoga Class

This is a 75 minute yoga class taught through the framework of trauma informed yoga. This practice is designed to create a safe environment while encouraging exploration of the mind-body connection. So what does this mean? How is it different than a “regular” yoga class? It means that practice space is designed in a way in which each person has ample space to call their own, with no one directly behind them. Participants are given options to take space during the practice and can rejoin without question. Feel more comfortable with your eyes open at all times or your head up in child’s pose? No problem. This style of yoga encourages each participant to take any variation that makes them feel more comfortable. There are no commands in trauma informed yoga, only invitations to explore shapes and postures to further a connection between the mind and the body. This practice focuses on a mind/body connection rather than the precision of each posture. This class is designed to stimulate and deactivate the nervous system in a manner that enhances self-regulation. This practice is designed to assist with various emotional experiences including depression, anxiety, and trauma.

No previous yoga experience required.

This class will be lead by Veronica Tovar, LCSW & RYT 200, owner of Breathing Through Counseling & Wellness Services. As both a licensed clinical social worker and a registered yoga instructor Veronica has extensive experience working with trauma. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or concerns regarding the class or related topics.

Pop Up Rocket Yoga Class

Pop Up Rocket Yoga Class

What is Rocket? The rocket routines are revisions of the Traditional Ashtanga series that remove the hierarchy of postures and gives the student inspiration into their own creative process, their body's limitations and strengths, while still honoring the core values and teachings of this ancient practice.

What does that all mean? The Rocket resequences Traditional Ashtanga Series into variations more accessible for western audiences while fostering a playful, upbeat and dynamic atmosphere where we play music and emphasize handstands, floats, arm-balances, and change the sequence from time to time. Each pose and transition can be modified, refined and strengthened - the sequences are accessible to all.

About Bobby Harding: Bobby loves yoga. In particular, Bobby loves the traditional and progressive varieties of Ashtanga Vinyasa. Bobby Loves the way the continued pursuit of the practice and its challenges facilitates the refinement, strengthening and opening of the individual as we each are invited to confront ourselves on our mats. He loves to share the practices and to make sure all who are drawn to them are able to find enjoyment.

No need to sign up in advance - show up ready to have some fun! All levels welcomed to join, learn, and have a great time.

Suggested Donation: Free for members, Counts as 1 class for Package Holders, Drop ins: $13

Pop Up Yin Yoga

Pop Up Yin Yoga

Yin is a slower, more gentle style of yoga that works on opening the body and mind. Poses are done on the ground in seated or reclined positions and focused on longer deeper holds. Unlike other practices that focus on strengthening, heat building, and activation of the muscles, yin’s objective is to deactivate and to allow ourselves to release deeper into the connective tissues throughout the body. Poses are focused on passive release with the use of props for support and are typically held for 3-5 minutes each. After a few minutes of holding these poses, the body begins to find more release while helping to open and strengthen the joints. For those that have a hard time being still, this is a great mental practice. It may seem slow and gentle, but yin still offers a challenge of seeking our physical, mental, and emotional edges. There is great strength in surrender.

January Yoga Challenge
Jan
1
to Jan 31

January Yoga Challenge

It’s that time of year to refocus goals, intentions and to build more consistency and discipline in the things that make us feel good. Last year we hosted a 31 day yoga challenge for the entire month of January. This year we’re doing it again but want the focus to be more about consistency in your practice…even if it’s not every single day. How many days a week would you like to be practicing? What are your yoga goals? We want to help you on this journey towards building your practice and working towards a healthier body, mind & soul! You don’t need any yoga experience to start - you don’t need to be flexible OR strong. Most of our classes are beginner friendly so start where you are and let the magic happen!

So here’s how it works…if you’re wanting to be a part of this challenge, all you have to do is SHOW UP starting January 1st and come in and practice as many times as you can/want to for the entire month. Each time you come in, sign your name in and we will keep track of who’s coming each day based on the sign in sheets. See how many days you can get in within the month and let it set the tone for the rest of the year! If you DO decide to come in and practice for all 31 days of January, you will win a brand new Manduka Eko mat! Take pressure off yourself - this is not about winning, failing or burning yourself out. This challenge is about doing what you can and if you miss a day, enjoy it and let it motivate you to keep moving forward - have fun!

We don’t always need to wait until a new year to reach our goals but why not use it as an opportunity to reset and build positive momentum moving forward?! This challenge is free to join - the only expense is the cost of the classes you attend. We offer class packages, 1 month unlimited or memberships (autopay). If you are needing to purchase any of these, you can always donate towards those HERE . Scroll down, click donate and you’re done!

Our class schedule can be found HERE - Be sure to check it week to week for any pop up classes or schedule changes! (meditation classes and workshops DO count towards your practice as well).

We hope you start 2019 off with us on the right foot…and then the left, of course. (and we are obviously a hilarious bunch)

Align & Refine - Beginners & Refinement Yoga Workshop Series

This 4 Part Series will be held Friday nights 5:30-7:30pm from November 9th-30th (4 consecutive Fridays) Details listed below:

This is not JUST for beginners - It is broken up into 4 separate workshops and can be purchased as a whole (recommended for beginners) or separately (for those looking to fine tune their practice or can only make select classes). If all 4 sessions are purchased as a whole, you'll receive 2 free consecutive weeks of yoga classes at our studio (can be started during series or after completion - just let us know when you'd like to begin).

Whether you're just starting out on your yoga journey or just want to make sure you're doing it "right" with correct alignment and body awareness, this workshop series covers all the bases. Yoga is for everyBODY - learn to love and move in the body you're in - we will help guide the way. You don't have to know a thing about yoga - if you're unsure about what style may be best for you, we recommend the first session as it will break down the different styles practiced at our studio. The other sessions will work through different movement-based postures and transtions and how to tailor them to meet your needs. Most of our classes on the scheudle do incorporate a decent amount of movement, so if you know that you are wanting something more calm, still or relaxing, then you are welcome to just jump into any of our regular yin or pop up restorative classes on our studio schedule - this workshop is more geared towards those wanting to learn where to start with a movement-based practice. You don't need to be skilled, strong or flexible to start this workshop series - that's what we're here for!

Pop-Up Hip-Hop Flow Class

Why not have a little fun once and a while and try something new?

Instead of our usual Vinyasa level 2 class, we are hosting a pop-up hip hop flow class for this evening. Expect some new and old school hip hop music, fun flows and overall, a great time. Yes, there will be some explicit lyrics, so we apologize for any offense - we promise it's all just light hearted fun on our end! Only fun and open vibes please - come ready to hip hop and flow! No sign ups necessary - just show up and we'll be waiting for you!

Why you ask? Aside from it being fun to break routine from time to time, it's also one of our student/friend Brenda Rightnour's birthday and she requested a hip hop yoga class for her birthday! No, you don't have to know her to come join in - just a playful way to spend your Wednesday evening on your mat with the community! We hope to see you there!

Elevate Book Club - The Alchemist

Elevate Book Club - The Alchemist

We are so excited to be launching our very first Elevate Book Club Meet-up! Read on for all the details!

Book: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Join us for an hour of community sharing and discussion about this amazing book over tea and light snacks. We know that yoga is so much more than the postures - it's a way to look inside ourselves and gain a deeper sense of awareness and self reflection. We feel that these books and meet-ups will give us all an opportunity to reflect, connect and share our thoughts with one another. We've selected books that may help to evoke new ideas, perspectives and personal transformation, but whatever your experience may be, we just hope that you enjoy being a part of it! Each book club meeting will end with a short meditation to reflect on the topics discussed. No prior experience is necessary.

You do not have to read the book to be a part of this book club! This is about connecting with one another and sharing perspectives - it will be an enriching experience even if you just come to listen and enjoy. If you did read, we will have some discussion questions in reference to the book to help spark conversation. We want this to be a fun and lighthearted evening and hope you can join us!

What to bring: You, a tea cup, community snacks, and any questions, quotes or references from the book that you may want to share! Tea will be provided to you, but tea donations are always welcomed! If you have an electric tea kettle, feel free to bring it as we hope to have lots of you attending!

This is the first scheduled book club meeting and hope to have many more in the future. We are not going to have a strict schedule each month, but will allow it all to flow naturally from one to the next and will have plenty of good recommended reads coming your way!

With: Kaycie Hall & Shauna Wetenkamp

Cost: FREE! If you plan to read the book, it will be your only expense needed
